Afrisam’s Robotic Upgrade

AfriSam is a leading supplier of superior quality construction materials and technical solutions. Their cement, aggregate and readymix concrete construction materials have been contributing significantly to infrastructure development in Africa over the last 80 years.

The first robot within the Afrisam Group was a Fugitsu installed in Swaziland in 2008. With no local support being available, and the robot starting to require endless repairs, Afrisam had to select a new robotic system supplier.

Having done their homework thoroughly, Robotic Innovations was contracted to remove the old Fugitsu robot and install a new Fanuc M-410iC palletizing robot system. To ensure a proper functional system for years to come, it was decided to also upgrade the complete PLC control panel, field wiring, sensors and gripper with a matching pick-up conveyor.

With the entire electro-mechanical upgrade taking only 4 days from start of removal, to start of production, Afrisam was ecstatic with their new robotic solution. This new Fanuc robot has been described by Afrisam as much faster than their previous Fugitsu, and has exceeded their expectations and production requirements.
